Program Curriculum

The Orthopaedic Surgery program consists of 60 months of training that is divided into 12 month postgraduate year (PGY).  There are eight required rotations. All rotations are two or three months in duration. Residents will rotate to Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, Florida where all aspects of pediatric orthopaedics are covered. The rotation for trauma is provided at Carolina Medical Center Charlotte, NC. Our resident will also do rotations at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC. The curriculum provides for four residents at each level, with extensive exposure and practical experience in all phases of spine surgery, hand surgery, pediatrics orthopaedic, sports medicine, orthopaedic oncology, complex trauma, reconstructive surgery and complete outpatient and inpatient care.

Elective Rotations

Orthopaedic surgery residents may choose rotations based on their pre-selected specialty or specialty goals. Electives can be inpatient or outpatient. Available electives for the program are listed below.

  • Burns/Plastic Surgery
  • Neurological surgery
  • Rheumatology
  • Physical Medicine

We also have faculty who represent all orthopedic sub-specialties: A branch of medicine or surgery that a doctor specializes in., including: Sports Medicine, Musculoskeletal Pathology, Orthopedic Trauma, Hand Surgery, Spine Surgery, Pediatric Orthopedics, Foot and Ankle Surgery, and Joint Replacement Surgery.
