Robinson Health Clinic Behavioral Health Consultation Services

What is the Behavioral Health Consultation Service?

The Behavioral Health Consultation Service offers assistance when habits, behaviors, stress, worry, or emotional concerns are interfering with your daily life and/or overall health.

The Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) works directly with your Primary Care Manager (PCM) to evaluate the mind-body-behavior connection and helps you learn skills and techniques to improve your health. They will consider all of the physical, behavioral, and emotional aspects of your health concerns and help develop a plan that will work best for you.

What kinds of concerns can the BHC help with?

The BHC will work with your PCM to help you make lifestyle changes and cope better with chronic medical conditions such as:

• Insomnia
• Headaches
• Diabetes
• Weight Management
• High Blood Pressure
• Asthma
• Chronic Pain
• Irritable Bowel Syndrome

The BHC can also help you learn skills to better manage emotional or behavioral concerns such as:

• Depression
• Anxiety
• Stress
• Grief/bereavement
• Family Problems
• Anger
• Relationship Problems
• Quitting Tobacco

What should I expect when I see the BHC?

The BHC will ask you specific questions about your physical symptoms, emotional concerns, and behaviors, and how all of these might be related. The BHC is in the same location as your PCM, and appointments are no longer than 30 minutes. You may see the BHC for just a couple of appointments for brief, solution-focused evaluation and treatment.

How is the BHC Service different from “regular” Behavioral Health?

The BHC does not provide traditional therapy/counseling. If you agree with your providers that specialty Behavioral Health will better meet your needs, a referral will be made for you.

Another difference is that documentation of your appointments with the BHC will be written in your outpatient medical record. A separate behavioral health record will not be made. This information will be have the same degree of confidentiality as other information in your outpatient medical record.

Every effort will be made to protect your privacy and confidentiality, consistent with military and federal regulations. However, the BHC will communicate directly with your PCM and other members of your health care team. Additionally, like all providers, they must report information from any active duty patient that could have a negative impact on our mission.

How do I schedule an appointment with the BHC?

BHCs are available Monday-Friday, 8am to 3:30pm. Ask your PCM for a referral or call RHC at (910) 907-8282.

Remember: you and your PCM are in charge of your health care. The BHC is another part of that team and helps to create the best health care plan to improve your overall wellness!
