Referrals and authorizations extended for 180 days
With provider offices across the country rescheduling patient appointments due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we recognize some already-approved authorizations for TRICARE patients may expire before pandemic restrictions are lifted. In an effort to support access to care and reduce administrative burden for providers and beneficiaries, we have automatically extended certain outpatient referrals and authorizations an additional 180 days from the expiration date. The number of approved visits does not change. For more information please view the Referrals and Authorizations Extension Flier.
Referrals are not required for urgent care visits. Our TRICARE Prime beneficiaries have an unlimited number of urgent care visits. However, active duty service members enrolled in TRICARE Prime still require a referral for urgent care; ADSMs enrolled in TRICARE Prime Remote do not require a referral due to their remote location.
Please allow seven business days to receive a letter in the mail with the available specialty clinic and authorization number for all referrals.
If needed, as early as 48 hours after the appointment with your provider you can call (910) 907-2778 (APPT), option #2 to discuss your specialty consult with one of the staff members in the Specialty Referral Clinic. If you leave a voicemail we will return the call within 2-3 business days. Please do not leave multiple messages about the same issue.
