Cumberland County Health Department - Fort Liberty location
What is WIC?
WIC stands for Women, Infants, and Children. WIC is the Special Supplemental Food and Nutrition Education Program funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture that has been operating in North Carolina since 1974.
Public Health Community Partnership
The 2021 Community Survey led to multiple new initiatives aimed to combat food insecurity on Fort Liberty. In March 2023, the Cumberland County Health Department opened a WIC office on post to improve affordable food access for military families. The WIC office opening on the installation was made possible with the support from the Fort Liberty Department of Public Health, University of North Carolina (UNC)-Greensboro, UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and UNC Lineberger.
