Many patients take at least one class prior to an individual appointment, as many conditions require intensive education best taught in a group setting. Classes offered include civilian and active duty weight management, diabetes, pre-diabetes, heart healthy, gestational diabetes, and healthy pregnancy. 

Civilian Weight Management

Introduction to Weight Management

Reviews methods to successfully combine diet, exercise, and behavioral therapy in order to overcome likely problem areas and achieve healthy weight loss.

Active Duty Weight Management

Army Body Composition Program Counseling

Methods to improve performance triad behaviors of sleep, activity, and nutrition to promote health and weight loss. An initial nutrition counseling memorandum is provided in accordance with Army Regulation (AR) 600-9 (see Active Duty-AR 600-9).

Fit For Performance 

A five-class series aimed to promote sustainable, healthy weight loss for active duty service members via positive sleep, activity, and nutrition behaviors, based on Fit for Performance Procedures (see Active Duty-ABCP and Fit for Performance Procedures). 

Bariatric Nutrition

Bariatric Nutrition Class

• Must have bariatric physician referral.
• Class located at the General Surgery Clinic.

Medical Nutrition Therapy

Diabetes

Taught by a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator, designed for patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.  This class helps new diabetics and patients who need a refresher to navigate carbohydrate counting, lifestyle modification, and medication use.

Pre-Diabetes

Designed for people with pre-diabetes or at high risk for Type 2 diabetes, this class helps patients to improve food choices and make lifestyle changes in order to prevent or delay onset of type 2 diabetes.

Heart Healthy

Covers dietary and lifestyle modification guidelines to improve cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood pressure.

Pregnancy

Healthy Pregnancy

This class is designed for all mothers-to-be and addresses methods to achieve a balanced diet, appropriate weight gain, regular physical activity, and other nutrition considerations during pregnancy.

Gestational Diabetes

Provides nutrition information and meal planning skills based on guidelines for pregnant women with high blood glucose levels or gestational diabetes diagnosis.
