Maternal Fetal Medicine

What is Maternal Fetal Medicine?

Maternal-Fetal Medicine, or Perinatology, is a sub-specialty of obstetrics that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of disorders in mothers planning pregnancy, expectant mothers and their unborn babies. We provide care from pre-conceptual counseling through delivery and recovery.

We have a blended team of providers on staff to assure that we can provide expert services to women throughout their reproductive lifetime, regardless of their age or condition.

We utilize leading edge diagnostic ultrasound services and are accredited by the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine. Ultrasound unites are equipped with state of the art 3D/4D equipment to assure the most technologically advanced services. Our sonography staff are OBGYN, Fetal Echocardiogram and Nuchal Translucency certified.

Our Team

  • Maternal-fetal medicine physicians—Board-Certified OB-GYNs who specialize in managing complicated pregnancies or performing complex diagnostic procedures involving the mother and/or fetus

  • Maternal-fetal coordinator—a Board Certified nurse practitioner who coordinates high risk prenatal care with other providers in the network or at Womack, provides education with a focus on diabetes education and management, and updates the Maternal Child team of the progress of our high risk patients to facilitate continuity of care to the family unit

  • Registered nurses

  • Sonographers- OBGYN, Fetal Echocardiography, and Nuchal Translucency certified

  • Medical Support Assistants- to schedule appointments, check patients in, monitor and relay phone and email messages to the appropriate medical staff, support and direct patients
