Public Health Accreditation

The Fort Bragg Department of Public Health (FBDPH) is now accredited by the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB).

What is Public Health Accreditation?

  • The measurement of health department performance against a set of nationally recognized, practice-focused and evidenced-based standards.
  • The issuance of recognition of achievement of accreditation within a specified time frame by a nationally recognized entity.
  • The continual development, revision, and distribution of public health standards.

PHAB’s initial accreditation assesses a health department’s capacity to carry out the ten essential Public Health Services; manage an effective health department; and, maintain strong and effective communications with the governing entity.

About PHAB

PHAB is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to advancing the continuous quality improvement of Tribal, state, local, and territorial public health departments.

The PHAB accreditation process consists of seven steps. Learn about the PHAB steps from Pre-Accreditation to Reaccreditation

Army Public Health Accreditation

The military interest in PHAB accreditation began in 2012 as an exploratory performance improvement/accreditation initiative of the (former) U.S Army Public Health Command based at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. In 2018, the Deputy Chief of Staff for Public Health, U.S. Army Medical Command, with the support of the Army Public Health Center (APHC), launched the initiative across 28 installation Departments of Public Health.

For several years now, PHAB has been working with the U.S. APHC and Army public health professionals from across the country to customize the PHAB standards and measures, Version 1.5, to the Army Installation Department of Public Health (formerly known as Army Public Health/Preventive Medicine Department) setting. The standards were approved by the PHAB Board of Directors in February 2019. You may also download the complementary Acronyms and Glossary of Terms.
