Raises

Consist of annual statutory (all Federal employees ‐ usually about 2 percent),
step increases at regular intervals, and market pay adjustments 
(for physicians and dentists). Wages are protected by law.

Based on supervisory recommendation and availability of funds. 
Pay may be reduced based on economic factors.

Job Security

Career status is gained after three years of
service; while not a guarantee of lifetime
employment, the employee is protected by law.

Based on the needs of the employer.

DEA Certification Fee

Waived for Federal employees.

Paid by employee.

Paid Time Off

Eligible immediately. Several types of paid
time off including vacation, sick, and legal
holidays. After one year of service a new full
time employee can expect to have accrued
12 days of vacation time, plus 12 days
of sick leave, plus 10 paid holidays.

Eligible after 90 days. One type of
paid time off which must be used for 
illness, vacation, or holidays. After one
year a new full time employee can
expect to accrue 17 days of combined 
vacation and sick days with no 
paid holidays.
