We train valuable Family Medicine physicians to become elite Army officers and expert clinicians in hospital medicine.
The WAMC Family Medicine Hospitalist Fellowship Program and Program Director comply with the criteria for fellowship eligibility as specified by the Womack Graduate Medical Education Institutional Guidelines and U.S. Army standards. All fellows are members of the U.S. Army. There are no civilian trainees.
WAMC Family Medicine Hospitalist Fellowship accepts up to 2 fellows per class. The program length is 12 months, and typically starts on 1 July. Our practice site is located at Womack Army Medical Center where fellows conduct the majority of their training.
Fellows are also required to complete:
3 days per month – Either ultrasound practice, intubation practice or academics
Continuity OB – Carry 1 continuity OB patient per quarter
The MODS system is used for selection of fellows into the Family Medicine Hospitalist Fellowship program. Results from this military match are distributed at the Army Graduate Medical Education Selection Board which is typically held the week after Thanksgiving each year. In early November, the program reviews the MODS files of applicants to the Fellowship Program and places them on an Order of Merit List (OML) based on their performance as outlined in the MODS file.
The application deadline for fellows is 15 September. Fellows will complete the application online using the MODS website. In addition, residents will need to include a number of items with their application packet. These supplemental items are due by 15 October. These items include: medical school transcript, step 1 and 2 results, height and weight and APFT verification.
